India formally approves use of two vaccines: COVID 19

Agency: India has formally approved the emergency use of two coronavirus vaccines.

 The country is preparing for one of the world’s biggest vaccination drive.

The drugs regulatory authority has approved the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca with Oxford University and by Bharat Biotech.

India has plans to vaccinate up to 300 million people this year.

The country has recorded the second-highest number of infections in the world. There are more than 10.3 million cases confirmed cases till now. Around 1, 50,000 people have lost their lives due to the virus.

On Saturday, the country held nationwide drill to prepare more than 90,000 health care workers to administer vaccines across the country.

The Indian regulators are also considering the approvals for other vaccines including one made by Pfizer and BioNTech. These vaccines has already been approved in US and Europe.

India is the country with second largest COVID 19 cases, while US being the first one.
