England and Scotland begin new lockdown as cases rise
Agency: People in England and most of Scotland must now stay at home except for handful of permitted reasons, according to BBC.
Schools have closed in England, Scotland and Wales. Similarly, Northern Ireland will have “extended period of remote learning”.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned that the coming weeks would be the “hardest yet”.
According to BBC, this decision has come after UK reported a record of 58,784 cases on Monday.
PM Johnson said that hospitals were under “more pressure from COVID at any time since start of the pandemic”.
Similarly, on Monday, first Minister Nicola Sturgeon of Scotland issued a stay at home order.
The spread of coronavirus this winter has been faster than government’s attempts to keep up with it.
The economy is being affected in so many ways due to closure of work, school and restaurants, shops and others.
