Trump issues ban on Alipay and WeChat pay

Agency: US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to ban transaction on eight Chinese app including Alipay, QQ Wallet and WeChat pay.

According to BBC, this will come into effect in 45 days. Trump said that the apps are a threat to US National Security.

“It flags the possibility that the apps could be used to track and build dossiers on US federal employees,” writes BBC.

The order says the United States must take aggressive action against those who develop or control Chinese connected software applicants to protect our national security.

President Trump’s order says that by accessing personal electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets and computers.

The detail on the types of transaction that will be banned is yet to be known, according to The Washington Post.  According to legal experts, transaction bans could include barring downloads of the apps from the Apple and Google app stores or forbidding all financial transaction.
