Japan declare state of emergency as COVID 19 cases surge
Agency: Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has declared a state of emergency for Tokyo and other surrounding areas because of the surge in COVID 19 cases. Reportedly, the number of cases is all time high since the beginning of the pandemic.
The emergency declaration will be in place from Friday until February 2. This will be applied to Tokyo and three other neighboring areas of Chiba, Saitama and Kanagawa.
Japanese PM has been criticized for his reluctance to take action to prevent the spread of virus.
The first state of emergency was declared last spring, which was relatively early in the pandemic.
The emergency lasted for more than a month, and saw schools and non-essential business closed, according to CNN.
The PM will be scheduling a press conference later on Thursday to being new measures.
