Diamond jubilee celebration of Kanchanjungha ascent

Taplejung . The diamond jubilee celebration of the Annapurna ascent is being observed in the district. The Annapurana Peak is the third highest mountain of the world while the second highest in Nepal.
The Kanchanjunha Conservation Area Management Council is organizing the event for three days from today. During the celebrations, publicity of the second highest peak of Nepal would be made along with cultural performance, video screening, and display and sales of local products, promotion of indigenous cuisines. Secretary at Council Office, Man Kumar Limbu, informed that six Annapurna climbers were being honoured on this occasion. They are, Pasang Sherpa, Ngada Sherpa, Lakpa Sherpa, Dawachheten Sherpa, Minggyabu Sherpa and Lakpa Sherpa.
The celebration is being organized under the theme of ‘Kanchanjungha Conservation Area: Gift of Nature and Base of Sustainable Eco-Tourism’. It is believed the event would be helpful to boost tourism and conserve environment.
The British climbers Joe Brown and George Band were the first to reach atop the world’s second highest peak in 1955. However, efforts to scale it had made since 1905.
